Redemption

The word of God became my refuge and Jesus Christ became my purpose.  For the first time in my life I felt complete. I read through the New Testament in just one month.  I learned so much about God and was filled with peace. The four Gospels showed me the great love of Jesus Christ.  He took my sins with him on the cross, he died for me, and now I am forgiven and have eternal life.

In Luke 15, Jesus tells three stories about a lost sheep, a lost coin, and a lost son.  Those words touched my heart and made me realize how much he loved me. He chased after me like the shepherd went looking for the sheep.  He cleaned the house and searched desperately for me like the woman who lost her coin. And he watched for my return to him like the son who betrayed his father.  There was no condemnation for me, only a celebration waiting.

1 Peter 2, tells me I am chosen.  I am God’s special possession who was called out of the darkness into his marvelous light.  My life now has purpose and meaning. I used to risk my life for dumb reasons. I thought I had a family who cared for me, but I see it was all fake.  I thought I found fulfillment in power and drugs, but that left me broken and empty. Now that I see clearly, I want to live a life for Jesus Christ. I am willing to risk it all for him, because he risked it all for me.

On A Mission

Near my home is a region known as Chichimecas.  It is a community of indigenous people with high numbers of suicide, drugs, and witchcraft.  After reading about the characters in the Bible who left their homes to serve God, I was inspired to do the same.  I decided I would go and share the Gospel message to the families of Chichimecas.

For five years I preached to the people with no one wanting to come to Jesus.  That didn’t stop me though. I see now that God was using me in those five years to transform my life and my families.  My wife and three children continue to serve the community with me. I have met other missionaries and brothers and sisters in Christ who also have a heart for this region.  God has made me a part of a team and expanded my family in bigger ways than I could ever think.

1 Corinthians 1:26-29

26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him.

God has used my foolishness, weakness, and low standing to bring me to him.  Now he has turned them into wisdom, strength, and has restored me into his family.  He is doing the same thing in Chichimecas. We are beginning to see a spiritual awakening in the area.  God is alive and active and he will do amazing things if you allow him too!
